[Open/Catch-all] Don't you let them see your troubles

Who: The Doctor and you!
What: A new place, lack of tech and friends means the Doctor is reluctantly getting his bearings while internally freaking out
When: Over the course of September
Where: Central Command, The Mage's Sector, Electric Heart + Mini Missions
Content Warnings: None, but will update if anything arises

the worst neighbour ever — central command

[A grounded, TARDIS-less Doctor is a bored Doctor. With no missions on the horizon and a reluctance to even participate in them, the Doctor has reverted to what he's always done when he gets bored: build.

Any neighbouring rooms in the residential parts of Central Command would have likely heard a lot of noise over the last couple of days including, but not limited to: dragging, banging, whirring, wielding, shouts of success, annoyed muttering and pacing at varying times throughout the day. Maybe you've been woken up by said noise or maybe worse, kept up by it. Either way, there's a very simple piece of paper that reads, "Do Not Disturb" slapped onto his door. Attempts to get him to shut up usually don't work and he might even poke his head out every once in a while to tell someone to go away because they're the ones disturbing him or give them some earplugs before shutting the door in their face.

The finale of it all results in a small 'boom' from behind the closed door to his room. It's enough to make some of the walls shake, the lights flicker, and moments later a tall man wearing goggles throws the door open coughing violently as smoke begins to spill out.]

Where are the extractor fans when you need them? I should have installed those first.

get in loser we're going to do research — library @ the mage's sector

[Typically when he lands in a place that he doesn't have any information on he'll do his research. Well no, that's a lie. He'll usually just dive right in and get to know a place via the locals if there are any because nothing is better than first hand experience. There are plenty of locals, but, ah yeah the talking bit. He's had his fill of talking to people which means that research is a very valuable and secondary option. That's how he stumbles upon the library in the Mage's Sector. It isn't quite as extensive as the one in the TARDIS - nothing ever will be - but it's got enough books here to satisfy his thirst for knowledge.

It's a good thing that this place doesn't close because once he's sat himself down with a large stack of books in a comfy armchair with a desk in front of him the Doctor isn't keen on moving. Passersby might notice that the titles and topics vary; all of them are about the Broken World and its history, the planet's vegetation, fauna, and local animals, technology, and the customs of the planet - but there's also one slipped in there that very obviously reads, 'Horsemanship For Dummies'. Is his notebook filled to the brim with notes about horse training? Maybe. It's none of your business. Linger long enough nearby and he might ask/tell you:]

Could you keep your breathing down?

guitar hero — vr @ the electric heart

[If you've never seen a Time Lord going through a mid-life crisis (can you even have a mid-life crisis when you're 2000 years old), now's your chance.

The Doctor has been shredding - quite literally - on the VR's version of the electric guitar all day. He's somehow found a pair of Rayban-esque sunglasses and is currently jamming out to a tune that some might recognize. Turns out that it's tied to a game that looks a lot like a familiar Earth rhythm-based game and he's doing an eerily good job of keeping up with the fast chords and beats he has to hit. By the time the song ends, the points total up on the screen announcing him as the current high score holder. While no one is playing with him (yet), there's definitely room for people to join in on another guitar (axe battle anyone?), drums, or any other instrument you fancy (is that a trombone flickering in the background?).

Maybe it isn't a visible mid-life crisis, but trust us he's definitely brooding about something because he doesn't seem the least bit pleased about securing the high score as he punches in 'Doctor Mysterio' into the name section.]

wildcard — pick your own adventure!

[The Doctor can be found in various places across the Witches Camp scavenging for parts, building things, or putting in time between the library, Central Command and studiously avoiding the infirmary. Need someone to bicker with? Do you also want to tell him his hair is unruly? He's your Time Lord.]

[ ooc: prose is absolutely welcome, I'll follow your lead. I'm also happy to throw up private top levels as a general catchall for the rest of the month. Feel free to reach out to me via journal pm or discord for plotting! ]

And I was sitting here quietly reading when you remarked on the level of my breathing. [ Obi-Wan pointed out. But rather than press the subject of rude horse meets rude Time Lord -and the world finds balance- he looked at the books spread out in front of him. ]

Nothing overly revealing. [ He said with a sigh. ] Most of what I've found discusses the magic, or power use that can be found here. There appears to be two schools of supernatural ability, one more mystic and the other more meta-human.

[ Obi-Wan is at least confident enough in himself to know he was not breathing all that loudly, and he does have a point, but the point has been made and so the subject can be dropped. Especially in favor of more interesting topics.

Shifting his chair a little closer, Obi-Wan tilted his head to study the other man's notes. There was genuine curiosity and focus in his expression, an innate desire to learn; even from a relative stranger. ]

My Order is built on a foundation of faith in a nebulous power we attribute to what could be considered scientifically measurable phenomenon. [By the time you take into account midi-chlorines, and the way the a planet lush with natural life could be a Force nexus.]

Those of us sensitive to this power, it is called the Force in my world, can use it to perform some of what this world attributes to magic. [ He pointed towards a note that seemed to discuss a spell that resulted in a shimmering hand that could push or pull at a distance from the caster. ] Like this one.

[ Wear ear plugs?

As the other man's body language spoke of interest and curiosity, the grumbling from earlier was completely forgotten and Obi-Wan simply scooted closer. He was openly happy to share his own research and questions with someone who had similar curiosities. ]

Yes! [ Obi-Wan smiled warmly. ] Ezra is from my dimension, probably about eight years ahead of myself.

I actually have not spent any time learning these spells. I am still wavering between whether or not to remove the chip the Sylphid implanted. If I do remove it, I will have my connection to the Force reestablished, which will do more for me than any spell in these books.

[ His voice is not that of a braggart; merely speaking matter of factly. As for the Doctor's question...]

I believe there are some low level spells, [ he said as he began to rummage through some books, in search of said spells. ] But there is another from my world, four thousand years before I was born; she is very gifted in Force Healing. I would probably go to her before trying to learn any of these spells myself.

[ Just seems a logical solution!

Obi-Wan laughed softly and gave his head a shake. ]

Don't tell Ezra that. According to most of those who are here from my world, I am an old man. Nearly fifty even. [ Obi-Wan makes a joke of it, but there is something in his eyes. Something that suggests he is an 'old man' who comes from a profession where people usually die very young.

At the question he sits back and exhales a long breath. Reaching up a hand, he brushes it through his hair. ]

Usefulness. [ He offers, after a moment. ] As I understand it, this chip being of Sylphid origin, would allow for me to go back into Sylphid territory without immediately raising alarms. [ Though they have only just met, Obi-Wan's gut instinct is such that he suspects the Doctor can understand the value of being able to infiltrate behind enemy lines. ]

I've spent the previous ten years of my life cut off from the Force, for reasons. I know I can function without it, my training is such that I am more powerful with it, but I am not helpless without it. [ Obi-Wan stared off for a moment, thinking about the most recent mission; thinking about the two parts to it. ]

I am unsure which part of this rebellion I want to participate in. I spent three years as a General, on the front lines of a war, but I was raised to be a keeper of the peace. I can't get past the question of whether I would be benefiting our new hosts, or simply allowing myself a selfish desire by limiting my utilization.

[ He looked back to the Doctor and gave the man a wry smile. Unspoken apology for the exposition, but truthfully the Doctor was the first person who had asked him this question. ]

The grandmaster of my order was nine hundred. [ Obi-Wan offered, the information as a way to express that he had experience with long lived species. Also a way to express that he respected the fact that two thousand was still a hell of a lot of years!

As the Doctor leaned back so to did Obi-Wan. As far as he was concerned one war was more than enough for him, though he was forced to admit that in defeat he was still fighting a war of sorts. A cold war, made up of subterfuge and long term movements across the board.

It was possible, for a being as old and experienced as the Doctor, the Time Lord might see hints of that story in hazel grey eyes. Other, less experienced beings would miss the far away look, but the Time Lord...

Regardless Obi-Wan shook it off and brought himself back to the here and now with a slight frown. ]

I have dedicated my life in the aid of others. [ The words sounded pompous, but the soft and almost reverent tone hopefully conveyed that Obi-Wan did truly feel his calling was in such service. ] I must admit that I am not entirely comfortable taking up arms against an enemy I know nothing about. The Witches appear to be honest, but many beings with nefarious purposes appear to be honest.

[ Palpatine for instance. ]

I feel a pinch of regret that I cannot bring myself to trust our hosts without these concerns in my heart. [ Obi-Wan turned towards the piles of books, then back to the Doctor with a wry turn of his lips. ] Perhaps I was hoping for conclusive proof in these books.
