It was wasteful if nothing else; Jedi took their whole childhood to train. The investment of that much time and energy wasted because a Jedi wasn't allowed to care more for their own student than a mission? Han Solo and Finn had known her for a day and they'd come back for her. How could a Jedi possibly not be better than this?

The rest of his words are a small comfort considering their source, though she appreciates him trying.

"You were a Jedi. Kylo was a Jedi in training. I don't have to be like him to be used by him. He's stronger than I am."

He had to be; she still isn't quite clear on how Snoke had all played into things, but she'd felt his power. If Palpatine was stronger than him still, she didn't have a chance. Not on her own. She and Kylo together -- maybe. If they had enough time to figure out how to use their bond for something besides inconvenient chats.
