That got a huff of amusement anyway.

"Leia hates me. Not the child who was here, but the adult who also knew me." Just to throw that out there.

"Yoda might have sent Obi-Wan to kill me no matter what the chances, but Obi-Wan believed him too or he wouldn't have come." That might be what convinced him he was beyond saving. Or maybe it was Mustafar and all its violence. "I don't want my grandson boxed into a corner, as I am."

Didn't that mean he could care about others and want the good for them and betray the idea he was beyond help? Probably. There's an ocean of self-hatred in Vader.
