Link doesn't have claws, but he still manages to scramble up the tree easily enough by sheer virtue of being really, really good at climbing. Unfortunately, he's not good enough at perception to spot Juhani before he grabs onto the tree branch that she's settled on.

Or, to be more specific, the part of the branch where her foot is. If she doesn't move, he's going to end up unwittingly grabbing it.
