Cowardice. Kylo would agree with that, and it's refreshing in a way to hear someone call it what it is, rather than try to make excuses for the galaxy's great hero. He has his doubts as to how well Vader can get through to him, but his intent to attempt does more to give Kylo hope of a different future than any assurances from Luke himself ever would.
